Art of management

Art of Management

Management is all about getting the work done within the timeline

Harold Koontz

Management is to forecast, plan, organize, command, co-ordinate and control  Henri Fayol

Every manager or leader has to work proactively and ensure that its team is delivering at par and below are few pointers which help managers in aligning team towards a goal

·        Productivity: It is the simplest way to measure efficiency and its also about getting the result we want with less time and efforts.
As daylight saving approaches, it’s a good time to think about different ways you can and save time. These days employees are spending more and more time at work, certainly exceeding the typical 48-hour work week. However, increasing hours worked does not necessarily translate to increased efficiency. So how can leaders and managers improve productivity while still saving time? So the question is How we can make our employees more productive and result oriented??

·        Don’t be afraid to delegate: Give responsibility to qualified employees and trust they will perform the task well. This give your employee the opportunity to gain skill and leadership experience that will ultimately benefit your organization. You hired them for a reason now give them a chance to prove you right

·        Match task to skills: Asking your employees to be great at everything just isn’t efficient instead, before giving an employee an assignment, ask yourself: is this the person best suited to perform this task? If not find some one else whose skills and styles matches your needs. And praise immediately about the job done by the employee

·        Communicate Effectively: Every leader knows that communication is the key to a productive workforce so encourage your employee to occasionally adopt a more antiquated form of contact …. Voice to voice communication. Having a quick meeting or a phone call can settle a matter that might have taken hours

·        Keep Goals clear and focused: You can’t expect employees to be efficient if they don’t have a focused goal to aim for. If goal is not clearly defined and actually achievable, employees will be less productive. So try to make sure employees assignments are as clear and narrow as possible. Let them know exactly what you expect out of them and tell them specifically what impact this assignment will have.

One way to do this is to make sure your goals are “SMART” – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and timely

·        Cut out the Excess: If possible try not to give employees smaller, unnecessary task when they are focused on a large goal. Take a look at the team’s routine and see if there is anything if you can remove to give employees more time to focus on higher priority assignments.

·        Train and Develop Employees: There are a number of ways that you can support employee development: individual coaching, workshops, courses, seminars, shadowing or mentoring or even just increasing their responsibilities. Offering these opportunities will give employees additional skills that allow them to improve their efficiency and productivity

·        Incentivize Employees: One of the best ways to encourage to employees to be more efficient is to actually give them a reason to do so. Recognizing your workers for a job well done will make them feel appreciated and encourage them to continue increasing their productivityWhen deciding how to reward efficient employees, make sure you consider their individual needs or preferences for example one employee might appreciate public recognition, while another would prefer a private “thank you”. In addition to simple words of gratitude.

·        Give Each Other Feedback:  There is no hope of increasing employee efficiency if they don’t know they are being inefficient in the first place. This is why performance reviews essential – measure your employees performance, then hold individual meeting to let them know where they are excelling and what area they need to work on. After reviewing your employees ask them what you could do to help them improve. Maybe they would like a little more guidance on certain tasks or would prefer a little more room for creative freedom. Asking for feedback not only gives you clear immediate ways to help your employees improve but also encourage a culture of open dialogue that will allow for continued development over time

POWDER DAY

I was in a dilemma as to on which topic I should write be it on journey from Graduation to PGDM or mischievous activity done by us in hostel like Praful’s 100 gram (sau gram) which I cannot explain because of its feature but I can assure you it hurts a lot, yelling at each other which can be heard from 100 meter while playing Counter Strike but it doesn’t affect us, we are used to it now, “Birthday bums” I can feel the pain of those persons whose birthday has been celebrated in mess and they have my sympathy, throwing each other’s belongings like shoes, pillow, bed sheet and inner wear from second floor to ground floor, batch meet and a lot of things if I will write, the blog will be covered from the list itself due to which I was confused.
But on the evening of October 2nd I was sleeping and being a student I was following Parkinson’s Law which states that the work will be stretched according to the time allotted i.e. we will start the work at the last moment. At least I can implement some law in my life, but unfortunately I am not proud of it. I wake up at 7 ‘o’ clock in the evening with a lot of pressure of studying Quantitative method and headache because we have end-term exam next day. When I came out of my room I heard seniors shouting and running on 1st floor believe me much worse cannot be felt than having headache and person screaming above your floor. Suddenly Jinu sir came running with powder in his hand and went inside the T.V room, there is a cricket match between India and South Africa so most of us was there watching match and he applied the powder to Samrudh’s sir face after that Tabrej Sir went to T.V room and I remembered Rajeev sir’s blog which was about playing Holi with powder remembering this I went inside the room but my bad luck, Tabrej sir caught me and applied powder on my face and at that point of time I came up with the idea of writing on this as it is the most lovable and memorable thing of hostel life so I decided to take some snap for blog and went to T.V Room but Samrudh sir caught me there and poured the whole bottle of powder on me.

As mischievous things attract us we decided to go to each and every ones room and apply powder on their head, face, body and take powder bottle from their room Junior and seniors was having powder fight. Kartik sir went to hostel door and threw powder on seniors who were coming from outside seeing this we also joined him. Arpit sir became our Robin Hood because he was the only guy who was giving us power as per our requirement. After that we started to play with water and threw water on Shefy, Pargat, Ankit, Ajay, Abhishek jha, Ajit etc. we made the mess and celebrated POWDER DAY till 12:30 AM.

After that it was our time to clean it up and for that I should thank Deepanjan, Ankit, ajit, Gautam sir any many other guys because of whom we escaped from paying fine.

And like this we celebrated POWDER DAY IN IBA……
